About Breast Lifts
A breast lift is a procedure that aims to physically reposition the breasts to address sagging tissue while restoring a firmer, more lifted appearance. Breast ptosis, or sagging, can be caused by many different factors, including aging, gravity, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, genetics, lifestyle factors, and more. (2) Women may also experience downward-pointing nipples or areola, as well as disproportional contours. No matter what each patient’s concern may be, Dr. Doumit can help each individual achieve their aesthetic goals in multiple ways.

Benefits of a Breast Lift
Many benefits can be experienced after undergoing a breast lift procedure. Patients can restore a firmer, more youthful-looking chest while improving their figure’s proportions. The breast, nipples, and areola can be reshaped and repositioned for a perkier, more uplifted appearance, and many patients find that their clothes fit better. Patients often experience enhanced confidence and self-esteem after undergoing a breast lift. This procedure offers long-lasting results, allowing patients to enjoy their new silhouette for years.
Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for a breast lift are primarily women who are interested in physically repositioning their breasts to restore a more contoured figure. Candidates interested in a breast lift include those experiencing sagging or drooping breasts, asymmetry, or unevenly shaped breasts. In addition, the areola or nipple may be pointing downward or sitting below the breast crease. Individuals who have recently undergone a significant weight change should be at, or near, a maintainable weight, as fluctuations may alter the final results of the procedure.
All candidates interested in a breast lift should be in good overall health and hold reasonable expectations regarding their breast lift. Patients should also be non-smokers or willing to quit until fully healed. (3) Dr. Doumit will determine each patient’s candidacy at their personal consultation.

Personal Consultation
Each patient will be required to meet with Dr. Doumit for a personal consultation before their breast lift. Dr. Doumit will walk each patient through the details of their breast lift before discussing their ideal results and potential concerns. After this, he will perform a medical examination on the breasts to evaluate their condition.
Once he collects all the information he needs, Dr. Doumit will craft each patient’s treatment plan, customizing certain aspects to help them achieve their ideal silhouette. He will also provide personalized preparation and recovery instructions alongside an all-inclusive quote.

Preparation
Dr. Doumit will provide each patient with a full set of pre-operative instructions to ensure they understand how to prepare. Patients must follow each instruction to ensure the smoothest recovery and the best possible results.
Patients planning on losing weight should do so before preparing for their procedure, as fluctuations in weight can alter the final results. In addition, women interested in pregnancy should have finished planning their families. Dr. Doumit also recommends a baseline mammogram for women over the age of 40. (2)
The use of certain medications or supplements, especially those with blood-thinning properties, should be avoided several weeks before the procedure. Patients should also cease the use of nicotine, as well as the consumption of alcohol, to minimize any potential complications.
Procedure
Each procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia to ensure each patient’s comfort. Dr. Doumit will make an incision in one of three places. The placement and pattern of the incision will be predetermined at your personal consultation.
- Periareolar Mastopexy: The periareolar incision, also known as a circumareolar incision, is made around the outside edge of the nipple and areola. This incision is the least invasive and is best used for mild levels of ptosis. (3)
- Vertical Mastopexy: The vertical incision, also known as a vertical mastopexy, is ideal when used to correct more significant breast drooping or reduce the size of the areola. Two incisions are made, one around the nipple-areola complex and then a second one that extends vertically down towards the breast crease, also known as the inframammary fold.
- Inverted T Mastopexy: The standard breast lift, also known as inverted T or anchor mastopexy, is performed using three incisions. Similarly to the vertical incision, the first incision is made around the nipple-areola complex, while the second incision extends down towards the breast crease. The third incision is then made horizontally across the breast crease. This technique is reserved for the most significant ptosis but also offers the most dramatic results.
After making the incision, Dr. Doumit will reposition the breast to a more aesthetic placement. Excess skin will be removed, and the remaining tissue will be reshaped with an internal bra into a more uplifting contour before the incisions are closed. Breast lifts are performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that each patient will be released home on the same day as their appointment. Each procedure will vary in length, but patients can expect the duration of their breast lift to last several hours.
Recovery and Results
Following their breast lift, patients will need to be taken home by a trusted friend or family member. Assistance around the house should also be arranged for the first day following a breast lift. Bruising and swelling may be experienced around the chest, but these effects gradually subside in several weeks and can be managed with pain medications under the guidance of Dr. Doumit. Resting with your head elevated is also recommended to minimize swelling further.
Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks, but strenuous exercise and activity should be avoided for several weeks.
Patients will be able to notice a significant difference after their procedure, but the full results of a breast lift can be seen after any residual swelling subsides. Initially, the breasts may feel like they are sitting a bit high, but will slowly settle into a more natural position as healing continues. Patients will be able to enjoy firmer, more lifted breasts, in addition to a more proportionate figure. The nipples may also appear perkier after they are repositioned or reshaped. Many women also find that their clothes fit better, leading to an improvement in confidence and self-esteem. The results of each patient’s breast lift are long-lasting, but patients should still maintain a healthy lifestyle to preserve their effects.
Corresponding Procedures
Many corresponding procedures can be performed in conjunction with a breast lift to restore a more lifted, youthful appearance in the breasts. The most popular corresponding procedures for a breast lift include breast augmentation and breast reduction.
- Breast augmentation is a procedure that uses artificial implants to increase the volume and size of the breasts.
- Breast reduction is a procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the breasts, alleviating discomfort caused by overly large breasts, while creating a more rejuvenated appearance in the chest.
