About Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a gentler form of skin resurfacing that exfoliates the outer layer of the skin with a small hand-held device. Skin resurfacing treatments remain popular, with more than 3.5 million of them performed in the U.S. in 2023 alone. (2) As we age, the skin’s collagen and elastin levels naturally decline, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, and laxity.
Microdermabrasion can increase your skin’s collagen levels to enhance skin health, vitality, and strength over time. (3) We can also combine microdermabrasion with other skin treatments to improve your results, allowing us to tailor your treatment to your unique circumstances and appearance goals.
Microdermabrasion vs. Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a specialized topical solution that removes the outer layers of your skin to reveal healthier layers and promote cellular turnover. Chemical peels are available in different strengths to rejuvenate your skin at different depths. They can be effective for addressing age spots, melasma, and acne. Many chemical peels contain alpha-hydroxy, glycolic, or lactic acid to exfoliate the skin, lift debris from the pores, and brighten the skin. Chemical peels are more intense treatments than microdermabrasion; after a chemical peel, patients may need to take as much as 2 weeks of downtime, whereas a microdermabrasion requires none.

Consultation
Your microdermabrasion treatment will begin with a consultation with Dr. Doumit. At this meeting, we will perform a physical examination to examine your skin, discuss your appearance goals, and then determine how microdermabrasion will help you address your concerns. Depending on the issues being addressed and their scale, Dr. Doumit may recommend a series of microdermabrasions. He may also recommend additional treatments to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Some patients choose to combine microdermabrasion with acne scar treatments to further rejuvenate their skin.
Schedule your consultation today to learn more about how microdermabrasion can help you achieve better skin. If you have any questions or prefer to schedule over the phone, please call our Montreal office at (514) 932-8200.
Treatment Process
On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and skin care products. We will first cleanse your skin. After the skin is clean, we will use a handheld wand that uses tiny crystals to gently exfoliate the skin. We may make several passes with the device to ensure an even treatment, adequately remove dead skin cells, and stimulate collagen production. As it passes over the skin and exfoliates, the microdermabrasion wand also removes debris from your skin with gentle suction. This process will repeat several times as we target various blemishes and stimulate your skin’s healing processes. The entire procedure often takes less than an hour. Most patients see the best results with 6 to 12 sessions, each spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
After Your Treatment
Microdermabrasion does not require any downtime, meaning you can return to your normal routine immediately. However, we recommend waiting a little while before touching or washing your face and applying makeup. Excessive and direct sun exposure should be avoided as well. After your treatment, you may experience some redness for a few hours, and your skin might be more sensitive during this time. This redness will go away on its own.
Results

After a microdermabrasion session, you can enjoy smoother, rejuvenated skin. This treatment can refresh your appearance by shrinking your pores, helping to clear breakouts, and diminishing scarring, discoloration, fine lines, and more!
Patients will begin to see improvements after their first microdermabrasion session, but the best results are seen after a series of treatments. We will also provide skincare recommendations that you can incorporate into your daily routine for the best results.
Additional Treatments
In addition to microdermabrasion, we offer several other minimally invasive treatments that can help patients achieve smoother, younger-looking skin, including:
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators is an injectable treatment that reduces repetitive muscle movements that wear on the skin, causing fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment limits the production of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions. Common treatment areas include the glabellar lines (the ‘11’ lines in between the brows), crow’s feet, and forehead lines. The results will last for about 3-4 months, but follow-up appointments can be scheduled to maintain long-term smoothness.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers add natural-looking volume to the skin. Our hyaluronic acid dermal fillers add volume by binding to water molecules in the skin. We offer several different injectable formulas, with some of the most popular applications being addressing undereye hollows and plumping the lips and cheeks.
Fat Injections
A fat injection uses your own fat to add volume to chosen areas. Injected fat lasts longer than synthetic fillers. During a fat injection treatment, we will remove excess fat from one area of the body, typically the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks, and then process it to isolate only the purest fat cells for reinjection. Following this, we will inject it into the targeted area(s), restoring volume and creating a more youthful, attractive look.
Intense Pulsed Light
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that targets imperfections with broad-spectrum light waves. This treatment targets unwanted pigmentation with the light energy and breaks it down, resulting in brighter, clearer skin. It can diminish general signs of aging, such as wrinkles, veins, and dark spots, for both women and men.
