LASER HAIR REMOVAL IN MONTREAL (CENTRE DE CHIRURGIE PLASTIQUE ET ESTHETIQUE DE MONTREAL)

Patients unsatisfied with the usual techniques (shaving, waxing, tweezing) used to remove unwanted hair or desire a permanent solution are choosing laser hair removal at Le Centre de Chirurgie Plastique et Esthétique de Montreal. Laser hair removal is a convenient and non-invasive method that can permanently remove undesirable facial and body hair. Laser hair removal is more effective when hair is in the growth stage. Hence, the best results are achieved after four to six treatments performed one month apart.

Before and After Photos

Procedure

Laser hair removal is regularly performed at Le Centre de Chirurgie Plastique et Esthétique de Montreal. Laser hair removal is a non-invasive, innovative cosmetic technique that utilizes a strong ray of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. The laser targets the black color of the hair follicles, also known as melanin, causing the hairs to fall out. Le Centre de Chirurgie Plastique et Esthétique de Montreal uses the most innovative laser technology in the market, Lightsheer a diode laser.

Frequency

The number of necessary sessions required to remove all unwanted hair varies from patient to patient. It depends upon hair follicle color and type, skin color and sensitivity, and the hair follicle responsiveness to the procedure.

Ideal Candidate

The best candidates for laser hair removal are patients with dark hair and light skin. Laser light targets the black pigment (molecule known as melanin) in the hair follicles, destroying it, and causing the hairs to fall out. It is easier for the laser to target dark pigment when the skin is white.  Patients with white hair are usually not candidates for laser hair removal.

Preparation

Patients need to shave the region to be treated one or two days before the laser hair removal (Light Shear XC) treatment. The ideal length of the hair shaft to be treated should be about 1-2 mm. Waxing the hair follicles is counterproductive as it removes the hair bulbs decreasing the effectiveness of the laser hair removal. Bleaching the hair follicles is also counterproductive as laser hair removal targets the black pigment color in hair follicles. The region to be treated with Light Shear XC hair removal should be free of antiperspirants, oils, creams, and scents.

Expectations

The Light Shear XC laser hair removal will be regulated for your particular hair and skin type by our expert Laser technician under the supervision of one of our world-renowned plastic surgeons or dermatologist. Protective eye shields will be placed to protect your eyes. Cooling gel is placed on the skin to assist the laser light in penetrating the hair follicle and cooling the skin. Our expert laser technician will then target the desired area for hair removal. Most patients tolerate hair laser removal without much difficulty. However, the level of discomfort varies between patients and it also depends on the treated area and type of skin. Topical local anesthetic (numbing cream) can be applied to the skin for one hour (and wrap the area with a saran wrap-type plastic sheet) before treatment to decrease discomfort. Each session can last from a few minutes to a few hours. At the end of the session, special cream and cool compresses will be applied to the skin. Four to six sessions, every four to six weeks, are usually necessary to effectively treat an area as the laser target best hair in the growing phase.

Post-Procedure

For a few days after hair laser removal, the skin might be red and feel like a sunburn. Aloe with vitamin E creams and cool compresses can alleviate that sunburn sensation. Patients can usually resume normal activities on the day of treatment. It is important to apply sunblock for at least one month on the treated area that is exposed to the sun. Hair follicles treated by laser will fall out in the next month following treatment.

Risks

Potential side effects of laser hair removal are irritation of the skin (usually a few hours to a few days), soreness, and swelling (less than 24 hours). Blistering, changes in skin color, or scarring can occur but those side effects are quite rare.

Results

In the vast majority of cases, permanent hair removal is expected after six to eight laser sessions. On occasion, touch-up laser treatment is required since not all hairs might have been in the growth phase during the previous laser treatments
