About Injectables and Fillers
Injectable treatments and dermal fillers are non-surgical, minimally invasive treatments used to help restore volume, augment facial features, and reverse the signs and symptoms of aging in the face. Fillers are often measured in cubic centimeters (cc) or syringes, with the product being provided in either 0.5 cc or 1 cc syringes. (1) Botox injection treatments were the most widely performed non-surgical treatment in 2023, with hyaluronic acid fillers following in a close second. Many patients opt for these treatments due to their minimal recovery time and diverse range of use. Botox treatments increased by 9%, and hyaluronic acid fillers grew by 8% in 2023. (2)

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Many of the fillers we offer contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance produced by the body. Hyaluronic acid fillers are biodegradable, meaning they are temporary, and your body will absorb them over time. Hyaluronic acid fillers add natural-looking volume to your skin, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles that form when collagen declines. Hyaluronic acid filler formulas can vary in viscosity, allowing for a wide range of options. (1)
Neuromodulators
Botox and Dysport are cosmetic injections that help relax the muscles in the face, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and creases. Botox is often used to target specific areas of the face, such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. This treatment has functional uses, as well as cosmetic benefits; Botox can be used to address chronic migraine conditions. (3)

Benefits of Injectables and Fillers
There are a variety of benefits from receiving dermal fillers and injections. Patients will be able to experience results soon after their treatment. Injectable treatments are also minimally invasive with no visible scarring, and patients can return to their routines immediately as there is no downtime associated with fillers. Certain fillers can help stimulate collagen production in the face. This means that the procedure offers gradually improving results and healthier-looking skin as collagen continues to build. (4)
Candidates
The ideal candidates for injectables and fillers are those who are interested in restoring lost volume to the face, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, and reversing the signs and symptoms of aging. Patients interested in enhancing specific areas of the face such as lips, cheeks, and under eyes would benefit from our injectable treatments. All patients interested in Botox or HA fillers should be in good overall health and free of underlying medical conditions that may impair healing. Preparation
Before each procedure, the injector will ensure that each patient receives instructions about how to prepare. Patients are asked to stay hydrated and avoid any harsh products such as exfoliants or retinoids. If applicable, patients should refrain from drinking alcohol a few days before treatment to ensure ideal results.
Procedure
At the beginning of each treatment, your injector may apply either a local anesthetic or topical numbing cream to help alleviate any discomfort. However, this is not always necessary, as these injections are well-tolerated and brief. For individuals receiving fillers, certain types of dermal filler may have numbing agents added to the solution, eliminating the need for anesthesia.
The injection pattern used in the procedure will differ depending on which injectable treatment is being performed, as dermal fillers and Botox produce different results and work in different ways. Hyaluronic acid fillers are often injected into areas such as the jawline, cheeks, and under-eyes to help achieve a more rejuvenated look. These injections often follow patterns to provide structure under the skin, such as crosshatching or linear threading to ensure an even distribution of filler. (4)
Your injector can administer Botox to the facial muscles to temporarily relax them, preventing fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines from forming. They can place Botox at dynamic muscle points to help reduce the amount of movement and activity while still maintaining natural facial expressions. (5)
Recovery and Results

Following an injectable procedure, patients with dermal fillers can enjoy a noticeable improvement in the treatment area. While there may be minor redness and swelling at the treatment site, these effects subside within the following few days. Patients will be able to return to most of their normal activities after their appointment but should avoid intense physical activities and excessive sun exposure for 24-48 hours.
Patients will be able to see a range of enhancements, from subtle to dramatic, depending on their treatment plan. Patients who receive dermal fillers may see either immediate or gradual improvements–or both–depending on the type of filler they choose. Patients receiving Botox will be able to see the effects of the facial muscle relaxation over the following few days as fine lines and wrinkles are diminished. Patients can expect an overall improvement in aesthetics, facial volume, facial definition, and an overall more youthful appearance depending on what injectable was received. Differently formulated injectables have different result durations; your injector will provide you with helpful information about each option.

FAQ
What are the differences between different injectables?
Different injectables and fillers contain different formulas that have different effects. Dermal fillers can be formulated from hyaluronic acid, which binds to water molecules to create a naturally more voluminous look. Botox and Dysport are formulated from botulinum toxin, which works instead to relax the muscles to lessen the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.
Will I need regular touch-up injections?
Many patients receive touch-up injections to prolong their results. These are optional, but they can help you retain your new appearance. The longevity of results depends on the injectable used; patient experiences may differ.
Is receiving injectables and fillers painful?
Injectables and dermal fillers are generally well-tolerated. Most patients describe the feeling to be less painful than a flu shot. We can administer a topical anesthetic to increase your comfort as well, but many patients feel that this is not necessary.
How will I know which injectables or fillers are right for me?
We will determine which injectables or fillers are right for your goals during your consultation.
Are the results of injectables and fillers permanent?
The results of injectables and fillers are not permanent. Your body will eventually metabolize these formulas, eventually causing results to fade over time.
