A lip lift procedure significantly improves signs of facial aging by rejuvenating the appearance of the upper lip. Facial aging causes a long upper lip which in turn hides completely the upper teeth at rest, a downward bend of the corner of the upper lip, and smoker’s skin lines. Dr. Doumit offers a variety of lip lift procedures. Dr. Doumit frequently performs the bullhorn lip lift; also known as a central lip lift. A lip lift by Dr. Doumit in Montreal shortens the distance between the upper lip skin between the nose and the red part of the upper lip (vermillion). Hence, a lip lift exposes aesthetically the upper incisors for 1 to 3 mm. A bullhorn lip lift shows more of the upper lip vermillion (red part of the lip) and helps rejuvenate the downward bend of the corner of the upper lip. A lip lift does not necessarily increase lip volume but helps show more of the vermilion. The final result is a lip, which appears rejuvenated, and attractive with the incision easily concealed at the base of the nose. To increase lip volume, Dr. Doumit can inject the lips with fat or hyaluronic acid such as Juvederm. Dr. Doumit produces natural results.

Procedure Details

Dr. Doumit offers and performs a variety of different lip lift procedures, each of which is highly tailored to your individual needs, wishes, and goals. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia and it lasts less than one hour. There is minimal or no discomfort during surgery.

A central lip lift, also known as a bullhorn lip lift, is performed through a subtle incision directly placed under the nose. Excess lip skin height is excised. The lip muscle is left untouched. The incision is closed and it is well hidden by the nose. A lip lift outcome is a rejuvenated short upper lip, and a more plump and voluminous appearance of the vermillon (red part of the lip) due to its outward rotation.

The procedure that rejuvenates the downward bend of the commissure of the upper lips (corner of the mouth) is performed occasionally in addition to the central lip lift with the addition of small incisions on the side of the mouth at the junction of skin and red part of the lip (vermillion). Lifting the corners of the mouth will place them in a more rejuvenated position and thereby enhancing the youthfulness of the face.

In both approaches, very fine temporary sutures are placed during surgery and removed four to five days following the surgery.

Recovery

Minimal bruising might be experienced, but should quickly resolve in less than a week. Swelling can persist for one week. Cold compresses in the first 4-5 days will diminish swelling. The incision line is cleaned daily with hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic ointment is placed twice daily. The incision is initially red. The incision quality and color will improve over a few weeks following surgery.

Expectations

Results from the lip lift are visible immediately after surgery and even more so when minimal bruising subsides in the first week. Results are long-lasting, and to help maintain your new and rejuvenated appearance, you should consider applying sun protection and sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

Safety

A lip lift is a minimally invasive procedure and therefore involves very little risk. Down time following the procedure is very short and you will be left with visibly younger and more attractive lips in no time. A scar is rarely visible because it is small and/or well concealed below the nose.

Cost

The cost of a lip lift varies according to the complexity of the surgery that needs to be performed. Costs usually vary $4000 and $5000.
