Photorejuvenation, also known as photofacial or skin rejuvenation, uses light energy to improve the color, texture, and tone of the skin. It can improve the appearance of some of the most common skin imperfections such as rosacea (redness), brown spots (pigmented seborrheic keratosis), and broken vessels (capillaries). Intense Pulse Light or Broad Band Light can also tighten the skin and reduce pore size. Hence, this non-invasive technology reduces signs of skin aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.

Procedure
Intense pulse light, also known as Broad Band Light or photo-rejuvenation, is a safe and non-invasive technology that improves the appearance of aging skin on the face, neck, chest, and hands for men and women. Intense Pulse Light fades brown age spots and clears broken vessels and red blotches. IPL gives aging or sun-damaged skin a more youthful look.
There is no downtime or recovery time with Intense Pulsed Light, as it does not disrupt the skin surface. Hence, patients can return to work or regular activities immediately after their photo rejuvenation treatment.
How It Works
Intense pulse light skin rejuvenation treatment uses a dual-lamp design that supplies controlled light energy pulses to the skin. The Intense Pulsed Light energy targets preferentially the collagen tissue, the brown and red discoloration in the skin. The skin’s healing process stimulates the production of new collagen, sloughs the brown spots, and absorbs the redness/broken vessels giving the skin a youthful look.
Intense Pulse light can also reduce mild acne scars and other skin irregularities with the production of new collagen giving the skin a smoother, younger look with a more uniform skin color.
Treated Areas
Intense pulse light, also known as Broad Band Light or photo-rejuvenation, can improve the appearance of aging skin on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands for men and women.
Procedure Details
Eyes goggles are placed to protect your eyes from the intense light. A cold gel is placed on the skin to keep the skin comfortable and help with light absorption. A mild stinging sensation is felt with the pulse of intense light but it is very tolerable. The Intense pulse light treatment lasts about 30 minutes. Visible results are gradual. To obtain maximal results, 5 to 6 treatments are recommended three to four weeks apart. Sunscreen is advised after treatment. You must avoid sun exposure and tanning beds while undergoing treatment.
Immediate Results
After treatment, the vast majority of patients will carry on their normal activities. Your face may feel flushed and warm following the treatment. Brown spots or freckles will appear darker for a few days and then peel off. Rosacea and broken vessels will have some temporary redness and then disappear. Sun protection is strongly recommended during the treatment period. Antiviral treatment is recommended in patients with a history of herpes simplex (cold sores) to prevent recurrence.
