Conveniently located to serve the areas of Montreal, Quebec

An eyebrow lift, often referred to as a brow lift or forehead lift, is a surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the appearance of the forehead and eyebrows. (1) This cosmetic surgery effectively targets sagging eyebrows and forehead wrinkles and subtly reshapes the brow to help individuals regain a more youthful and alert expression. Many people desire an eyebrow lift due to concerns about facial aesthetics caused by aging, genetics, or lifestyle factors.
Dr. Gaby Doumit is an internationally recognized leader in facial surgery and a board-certified plastic surgeon. He currently chairs a major facial surgery course in the US biannually. His innovations in eyebrow-lifting techniques have offered patients impressive results and reduced total recovery times by using smaller incisions and endoscopic techniques. (1)

About Eyebrow Lifts
Eyebrow position plays a big role in our facial expressions and can reflect feelings of anger, sadness, confusion, or alertness. With aging, the eyebrows droop and can cause a person to appear tired or angry when their emotional state reflects otherwise. This situation can affect an individual’s confidence and overall self-perception.
An eyebrow lift can address this by raising drooping eyebrows to create a more youthful and vibrant appearance. During the procedure, incisions may be placed strategically in the hairline or across the forehead, depending on the extent of correction needed. The surgeon will tighten underlying tissues, smooth out wrinkles, and elevate the brow region. Over the past decades, more individuals have opted for eyebrow lifts as advanced techniques offer minimally invasive options that promote quicker recovery times and more natural-looking results.
Benefits
A personalized eyebrow lift procedure allows patients to restore a more alert, rejuvenated appearance. Under the expert care of Dr. Doumit, patients achieve improvements like:
- Youthful appearances: The primary benefit of brow lift surgery is restoring a more youthful and energetic look, reducing signs of aging in the forehead region.
- Improved facial harmony: Elevating the eyebrows can positively impact facial proportions, enhancing overall symmetry and balance.
- Reduction of forehead wrinkles: The tightening effect of this procedure leads to smoother skin, reducing vertical lines and horizontal creases.
- Restoration of confidence: A refreshed appearance can boost self-esteem and encourage positive interactions.
- Lasting results: Most patients experience long-term improvements from brow lift surgery, often maintaining results for many years.
- Tailored solutions: The customization of approaches ensures that each patient receives treatment according to their unique anatomy and aesthetic desires.
- Minimally invasive options: Advances in techniques mean some patients require less downtime and experience fewer side effects.
Candidates
Good candidates for rejuvenation of the eyebrows/forehead include persons with at least one of the following: 1) sagging of the eyebrows, 2) sagging of the outer corner of the upper eyelid, 3) horizontal wrinkles across the forehead, and 4) vertical lines between the inner portion of the eyebrows.
Not everyone needs an eyebrow lift. The eyebrow position of most individuals remains in a good position for most of their lives when assessed about the superior orbital rim (a normal landmark for eyebrow position). However, for many people, sagging eyebrows can add to the overall appearance of facial aging.
All prospective patients should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the results of their procedure. A personal consultation with Dr. Doumit will help to further establish candidacy.

He will explain the eyebrow lift procedure, helping you understand the anticipated benefits and address any lingering questions you may have.
Personal consultations create an open dialogue where expectations can be aligned and a customized surgical plan can be formulated. Patients should feel empowered to ask questions regarding risks, recovery time, anesthesia options, and any other related topics.

Preparation
Dr. Doumit will give you instructions to prepare for the procedure. You should arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you during your initial recovery. Patients who take blood-thinning medications or supplements will need to avoid this in advance of their procedure. Patients who smoke or use other forms of nicotine will also need to quit before and after their procedure. You may also be required to fast for a set timeframe before treatment. Preparation requirements will vary for each patient, so be sure to carefully follow the specific instructions that are provided to you.
Procedure
There are several techniques for correcting eyebrow position:
Coronal Eyebrow Lift and Open Brow Lift
The eyebrows are rejuvenated via an incision hidden behind the hairline, extending from just above the ears across the top of the scalp. A traditional (coronal) eyebrow lift is a very powerful approach that lifts eyebrows and corrects deep transverse wrinkles across the forehead. The scar will not be visible.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
Dr. Doumit often rejuvenates the forehead with this minimally invasive procedure. (1) Dr. Doumit makes five small incisions of 1 to 2 cm hidden in the hair. With the help of an endoscope (a small camera on the end of a thin tube) and other endoscopic instruments, Dr. Doumit repositions the eyebrows to a desired position and contour. The endoscopic eyebrow lift results in minimal scarring, faster recovery, and a more natural look.
Direct Brow Lift
This is the most traditional method of eyebrow lifting. (2) In this method, the eyebrows are rejuvenated with an incision placed above the brow hair. This approach is usually reserved for elderly males, but some younger patients might benefit depending on anatomy and desired outcomes.
Lateral Brow Lift
In this brow lift method, a small incision of about 3 cm positioned inside the hair is used to reposition the lateral portion of the sagging eyebrow.
Recovery
Post-procedure recovery expectations may include some swelling and bruising, typically resolving within one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising in the forehead and eyebrow usually last up to 10 days. Dr. Doumit will recommend applying a cold compress for 48 hours following the procedure, with your head elevated to about 30 degrees when resting to minimize swelling and bruising. Pain is typically minimal, and all sutures are resorbable. Most patients fully recover within two weeks.
Results

After the bruising and swelling subside, you will begin to notice the final results of your eyebrow lift. Individuals can expect a more uplifted and youthful eyebrow position, a smoother forehead contour free of deep lines, and enhanced facial aesthetics contributing to increased confidence and self-assurance. The results are long-lasting and make a significant difference in one’s appearance. It will take a few weeks for the final results to appear, but improvement is typically visible within two weeks.
Corresponding Procedures
A forehead lift may also be combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Dr. Doumit will take the time during the consultation to discuss your desired contour and eyebrow position and inform you whether or not a blepharoplasty is recommended. During an eyebrow lift, certain muscles that contribute to sagging and wrinkles may be altered or released to elevate the eyebrows, reduce frown lines, and smooth the forehead. These procedures are especially effective for treating under-eye bags and dark spots. Eyebrow lifts may also be combined with facelifts (rhytidectomies), which remove sagging skin and tighten muscles throughout the face.

FAQ
What is the ideal age for an eyebrow lift?
There is no specific age requirement; however, many patients in their thirties to sixties are likely to seek the procedure. If you experience sagging brows that affect your expression, you may want to consider an eyebrow lift regardless of your age.
Does an eyebrow lift hurt?
Patients typically report minimal discomfort during the procedure thanks to anesthesia. Some soreness may occur post-operation, but this will be manageable with prescribed medications.
Will an eyebrow lift leave a visible scar?
Scarring will depend on the technique used; endoscopic lifts result in smaller incisions hidden in the hairline. Traditional lifts may leave a more significant scar, but careful placement minimizes visibility.
How long does it take to recover from an eyebrow lift?
Recovery varies among individuals. Most people can resume normal activities in approximately one to two weeks, with full recovery taking a few months.
Can I combine an eyebrow lift with other procedures?
Yes! Many patients choose to combine an eyebrow lift with eyelid rejuvenation or facelift procedures for comprehensive facial enhancement.
